Resume Writing Tips

Here are some tips to make sure your resume stands out.

Contact Details

Include basic information such as your name, address, telephone number, and email address (make sure the e-mail address you use is professional).

Career Objective

In this section reference your career objective back to the job applied for to give an indication of what career path you would like to follow.

Work Experience

This begins with your most recent role. Include employer names, positions held and primary responsibilities. The work experience you list can be from paid employment, or school/holiday based work experience. We understand that many applicants for apprentice roles are still at school and may not have any work experience.

Education and Qualifications

Include what grade you have completed, the subjects you were studying, and the school you attended. Include any other qualifications that you have completed or currently completing.

Hobbies and interests

List any hobbies or interests you have outside of school/work. This can indicate a link between your interests and the position you are applying for.

References

Include details of two referees (if possible), such as former or current Managers. If you have not had any prior work history, include details of a school teacher. We contact referees to obtain feedback on personal attributes such as reliability, ability to get along with others, and attitude towards work (whether this be school work or employment responsibilities).

Final Checks

Don't forget to spell check your resume. If possible, ask someone to proof read your resume to check for any spelling, layout or typing errors.
