Forestry is essential to Borg as a business, and we are looking for an innovative dynamic person to take the lead in securing our fibre needs.  

Borg Plantations was established 5 years ago.  Initially providing haulage and chipping services, then moving into forest ownership, Borg Plantations is committed to an eco-friendly and sustainable environment to be able to supply a consistent and cost effective source of fibre.  Our plans are to continue to find new sources of wood, including developing Australia wide recycling facilities.

Position

This newly create role will manage the Wood Resource requirements for our MDF and Particleboard facilities at Oberon and Mount Gambier.  Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide strategic direction to secure sufficient pulpwood, chip and fuel supply from a variety of sources including forest companies, private land owners, timber processing facilities, internally owned forests and recycled timber while maintaining compliance with safety and environmental requirements
  • Identify and develop new supply opportunities to increase fibre, improve supply security, reduce costs, optimise logistics, minimise working capital requirements and drive profitable growth
  • Manage the contractual arrangements with existing fibre suppliers, including negotiating and drafting wood purchase agreements
  • Maximise the performance of the Mt Gambier and Oberon Mills’ Wood Resource teams to ensure they are operating efficiently and meeting the needs of each mill
  • Manage and document all procurement operational activities and ensure adherence with quality and forecasts, including harvesting and haulage
  • Manage and report on the performance of company owned plantations

Requirements

  • A minimum of ten years of experience in a forestry management and wood procurement role 
  • Five years of experience in a leadership role of similar magnitude
  • Extensive historical knowledge of wood supply strongly preferred
  • Experience in forest modelling and acquisitions with demonstrated  analytical, trouble shooting and decision making skills
  • Strong organisational skills, the ability to prioritise and maintain attention to detail and recognise time constraints
  • Proven leadership skills; experience developing stakeholder relationships; superior negotiation skills
  • Advanced level skills in MS Excel; effective communication skills
  • Exposure to plantation record management and capacity to manage GIS systems
